AT A GLANCE
- A beautiful links enjoying a new heydey after a lot of design and irrigation work
THE GOLF COURSE
This is a lovely story of a once great layout falling into lazy disrepair and now reborn under the guidance of a much-appreciated Club President and the much-respected course architect Stuart Hallett, Granville has since risen rapidly among the best courses in France. Now rated 18th in France, this Harry Colt course is definitely worth the drive if staying in north Brittany or heading from/to the port of Cherbourg. In fact, it’s worth a few days’ play and we’ve got a lovely coastal hotel nearby (ask us for details).
Laid out in 1912 Granville, like many seaside courses in France, suffered during WWII (and WWI) and a lack of love after. Now it’s back to its very best after a lot of work and investment and a serious redesign (but it’s still cheaper than building a new course!). With 27 holes, Granville is a classic links with the main 18 holes reaching nearly 7000 yards off the back with a relentless stretch of tough holes on the front nine before you can regain your score on a relatively easy back nine. The par 33, 9 hole course is brilliant for after lunch.
With sensational coastal views and some beautifully crafted fairways, you’ll be smiling even if your card is not so happy.
