Golf in Mallorca is surprisingly good with many excellent courses. The Arabella Sheraton Golf Hotel and the Castillo Hotel Son Vida, members of The Luxury Collection, are two fine Spa hotels with three courses on-site: Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint.

The Son Caliu Hotel in Palma Nova represents excellent value and is ideally situated close to Puerto Portals and Palma. For groups of golfers the Iberostar Suite Hotel Jardin del Sol is perfect and the H10 Punta Negra or Hotel Bendinat, fine choices for couples looking for a quiet break.

The Mallorcan golf courses offer a variety of style and standards, the holiday courses of Poniente, Real Bendinat, Santa Ponsa and Capdepera will appeal to all golfers and the gems of Alcanada, Golf Park Mallorca, Son Gual and Pula are must plays for serious golfers.

Mallorca is back on the A list of golf destinations – from easy-to-book package holidays at one hotel to customised luxury holidays at de luxe hotels and a variety of courses. Golf tourism is increasingly competitive: no hotel and no golf course can trade on past glories – it’s how the hotel and the course are today that counts with the discerning golfer and with us at GolfPlanet Holidays. And Mallorca is marvellous. For the one-hotel golf break, let’s introduce you to the Castillo Son Vida, just a few kilometres from Palma, the capital of the island. The hotel is a stylish five-star place, with two restaurants (plus two more in the adjacent Arabella Sheraton) and three courses (Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint) within range of the free shuttle service. Unless you plan to tour the island, skip the car hire; use taxis to and from the airport and the shuttle between the courses. And now we present a two-part Mallorca golf holiday for those with a bit more time to spare – five days at Castillo Son Vida followed by (or preceded by) four days in the north of the island, based near Puerto Pollensa at the Son Brull Hotel and Spa, a beautifully-restored 18th century monastery with just about every modern comfort.. Let’s make the first stop at Son Gual (also known as GolfMallorca), 12 kilometres to the west of Palma. Son Gual is No 1 in Mallorca for customer service, according a 2013 survey. Then we drive on to Son Brull for four nights and a couple of days’golf at Alcanada (No 2 in the same survey). With the Mediterranean on one side and mountains on the other, Robert Trent Jones has created a stunning course winding through groves of pines and olive trees. One German magazine has called it the best course in Europe (we wouldn’t go quite that far – but it’s a great place to play). Finally, on the way back from Son Brull to Palma we go to the west coast for Canyamel (No 3 in the survey), a very natural course which the PGA European Tour reckons to be suitable for one of its events.Places to go to in Mallorca Restaurants The Room, on the renovated fishermen’s wharf in Palma, The Room offers tasty food in a cosy setting.
