South Korea Golf Holidays

South Korea is a nation in a hurry but still with great respect for its complex history and social relations. The Koreans have an insatiable appetite for technological advancement and an indomitable can-do attitude…Nowhere is this felt more strongly than in Seoul with its infectious energy and non-stop attractions. Less modern but no less appealing is the ancient city of Gyeongju, where temples, pagodas and royal tombs are a source of much fascination.

South Koreans loves their golf which makes it perfect for our South Korea Golf Holidays.  There are no fewer than 12 courses rated among the world’s best, we feature seven of them – in the regions of Chejudo and Seoul.

The Korean Peninsula is located in North-East Asia. It is bordered by the Amnok River to the northwest, separating Korea from China, and the Duman River to the northeast which separates Korea from both China and Russia. The country itself is flanked by the Yellow Sea to its west and the East Sea to the east. It is roughly 612 miles long and 105 miles wide at its narrowest point. Because of its unique geographical location, Korea is an international hub of Asia.

Mountains cover 70% of Korea's land mass, making it one of the most mountainous regions in the world. This makes for a breathtaking landscape of scenic hills and a perfect backdrop for our  South Korea Golf Holidays . The mountain range that stretches along the length of the east coast falls steeply into the East Sea, while along the southern and western coasts, the mountains descend gradually to the coastal plains that produce the bulk of Korea’s agricultural crops, especially rice.

The British laid out a few holes in the early 1900s and the first 18 hole course opened in 1924 with a couple added in the 1960s. So not many courses but a constant stream of South Korean talent has joined the professional tours with no fewer than 40 playing on the USPGA Ladies Tour and who can forget Yang beating Tiger Woods in the final round of the 2009 US PGA?  This success and the arrival of state-of-the-art resorts has led to massive investment in golf courses. Chejudo Island have nearly 40 courses, three of which are brilliant and most of the others are beautiful and a treat to play. Around Seoul there are even more. With high service levels, immaculate course presentation and quite unique scenery and wildlife, Korea must present one of the world’s most beautiful golf destinations.

And if you can spend a few extra days between the sightseeing and fabulous golf, explore the countryside where you will find serene temples, picturesque mountains, lush rice paddies, charming fishing villages and endless hiking opportunities. A voyage to the remotest islands of Dadohae Haesang National Park or the charming backwater of Buyeo will reward the more adventurous traveller.

We’d recommend a week in Seoul to explore and cherry-pick the best courses and then a flight to Chejudo to relax and play even more stunning golf designs.
