Manatí Park Bávaro

Taíno show

Taínos were the first inhabitants of the island called Hispaniola, composed of Haiti and Dominican Republic, before the Conquistadores came in. Their sacred dances were called areítos and were used to communicate with their gods and spirits.
These dances were accompanied of diverse musical instruments, being the tamboras (drums) among them - and this translates directly to modern music in which tamboras play a big role.

 

La Romana – Things to do

Altos de Chavón - Altos de Chavón is an artist village situated hight above the Chavón River. It has a tradition of arts and crafts and there are lots of art galleries among cobblestoned paths.

Visit the Market - In La Romana there is a real must-see market.   There is absolutly no problem just wandering around and looking at the different stalls without buying anything.

Isla Saona - Here you'll can find beautiful wild beaches and a fisherman's village.

Dressel Divers -  La Romana offers world-class scuba diving opportunities right off the one of the areas most popular beaches. Dressel Divers offers diving excursions seven days a week and 15 different dive sites spread out over a 20-minute boat ride.

La Romana Beaches - La Romana and its environs are home to several pristine beaches. Two of the most popular beaches are La Minitas and the tranquil Bayahibe. For the ultimate tropical beach experience, take a boat to the protected islands of Catalina and Sanoa where you will find soft, white sand and warm turquoise waters.

Water activities include snorkeling, sailing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving. There are numerous dive operators in La Romana. Two of the most popular dive sites are off Catalina Island and Sanoa Island, where you're likely to see whales, turtles and sharks.

Nightlife

Dance to Caribbean rhythms!  The nightclubs of La Romana-Bayahibe are renowned for having some of the best DJ's and live music in the area.  For a wonderful night, nightclubs are not the only option. There are many lively bars and lounge bars open until the early hours of the morning. 

Bubaraba Disco 

The club’s striking design comes with three VIP lounges, two screens for shadow dancers and a special outdoor terrace for smokers. The club offers a nightly tropical opening show and an interesting fusion of music in several languages, which combines African rhythms and Caribbean style.

The hotel clubs and bars - The best entertainment is at the hotels, where programs can change weekly or even daily based on their house.  El Pirata at Hotel Santana Beach Resort offers non-residents a night pass for about $20 entitling you to dinner and drinks. Shows on Wednesday and Friday at 9pm are followed by dancing from 10:30pm to 2am when a DJ plays salsa, merengue, and pop. On-site is a casino, open daily from 8pm to 4am.

Within the artists' colony of Altos de Chavón you'll find a disco, associated with Casa de Campo: Discoteque Genesis is open every Thursday to Sunday from 11pm till at least 2am and often later. Entrance costs up to $16 which will include access to an open bar throughout the evening. The preferred musical selection is merengue and whatever Latino nightclubs in Miami might be focusing on at the time.

La Locura at Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe is the scene of much of the local action.  You have to call the management during the day and arrange for a night pass (about $20 for dinner and drinks) to this is an all-inclusive resort.  The club is usually open from 11:30pm to about 4am.

Pot Bunker Sports Bar at Casa del Campo is a popular gathering spot at night, especially for male guests or for anyone who lingered too long at cocktails and suddenly discovered that all the other restaurants at the resort were closed! Major sports events are broadcast live via satellite transmission on large-screen TV’s.  Remains open daily from 3pm to midnight.
