Costa Navarino Resort

Costa Navarino in the stunning region of Messinia in south-west Greece is like no other resort in Europe.   The facilities and style are more than five-star and surpass any other resort in Europe.  And there is a type of accommodation to suit your every need: from the Deluxe Garden View bedrooms to Premium Infinity Suites with Seafront View and Private Pool.

All told, there are 766 bedrooms split between the two luxury holidays – The Westin and The Romanos - but the resort is spread out over a vast estate so the feeling of space and luxury is all around.

To go with the number of bedrooms and quality of accommodation, there are 11 restaurants and a great Dine Around plan so you can pick and choose pretty much as you please.  Whatever cuisine you’re after – from American Diner to gourmet French, you’ve got it on your doorstep.

The Westin features low-rise clusters of villas built in neutral natural materials.   The Deluxe rooms, Family rooms and Suites are set on a verdant hillside in a privileged seaside location, offering a mix of golf, sea and pool views.

With swim-up bars, chill-out lounges and bars, a library and plenty of “al fresco” dining and seating, Costa Navarino oozes the very last beautiful drop of its superb location and weather.   With temperatures no lower than 59 from December through to February and a wonderful 68 in November and April, Costa Navarino is a true year-round destination where summer lasts six months and winter doesn’t exist!

The Romanos is even more spacious and all the rooms overlook the sea and infinity pools.  Set amid lush olive groves, even the smallest bedrooms offer 43m2 of space.

The Romanos Resort is regularly honoured at the Condé Nast Traveller Readers Awards and was the first Greek hotel to be named “Favourite Overseas Leisure Hotel: Europe, Asia Minor and the Russian Federation”. The Romanos also took fourth place in the magazine’s World Top 100 list of Experiences.

The Restaurants

A wealth of fresh, organically grown ingredients and a devotion to authentic gourmet cuisine in Messinia define the dining experience at Costa Navarino.   The award-winning Chefs serve a range of ethnic, continental, Greek fusion and local fare based on the lush flavours of the Messinian countryside, the Mediterranean diet and finest quality Kalamata olive oil. The culinary offering is complemented by dishes based on the Omega diet, served across many of the venues.  Age-old recipes, treasured for their health benefits and nutritional value, exist alongside contemporary culinary explorations.   Kindly note that restaurants operate on a weekly basis and may not all be open at the same time during various seasons and periods throughout the year.

The Dunes

Designed by Bernard Langer, the course features spectacular sea and river views with tall dunes dividing some of the holes from the beach.  The greens are large but undulating and the fairways are wide but with plenty of pot bunkers to add to a links feel.  For those of you who have played Langer’s courses before, we think this is his best and his fairest.

This Championship course, set in a landscape of diverse topography with spectacular sea and river views, incorporates some links-style features in areas closest to the sea. Parts of the course venture into olive and fruit groves, while some holes run along a small river. Combined with large undulating greens, wide fairways and steep-faced pot bunkers, the links element of the course adds to its unique style and playability.  Much of the course has been crafted to reflect the rugged outlines of the distant mountains. As you move further inland, the course evolves, its character softening to fit with the surroundings of olive and citrus groves. In season, players are welcome to sample the ripe fruit from the trees around the course at their leisure.

The course measures 6,018 meters (6,581 yards) from the back tees with a par of 71.

The impressive 3,500m² Dunes Clubhouse acts as Clubhouse for both golfers and offers the ideal setting to socialise and relax before or after play. A spacious open terrace affords superb, elevated views over the course and the surrounding region.   Elegant, full-service locker and changing facilities are available for all guests.

The well-stocked Pro Shop offers the latest golf equipment, apparel and accessories from a range of international brands as well as Costa Navarino’s own clothing line.

The Bay

Trent Jones doesn’t do average.  He does good to amazing and The Bay is amazing.  Stretching along two miles of west-facing seafront, you’ll enjoy the views even if your swing is not on song.  Trent Jones says this was the best site he’s worked on in Europe and with ancient cypress and olive trees and that gorgeous view, you can’t disagree with him.

With the majority of tees offering sublime sea views and two holes playing along the historic Bay of Navarino, the course meanders through three distinct natural landscapes. The Seaside, Canyon, and Grove loop of holes provide striking contrasts that create a dramatic and memorable golf round.

Seaside: Golfers experience four different Seaside greens framed by a scenic backdrop of the tranquil waters of the Bay of Navarino. The bay's natural beauty is showcased on the Fourth, a short and strategic par 4 directly fronting the bay with the town of Pylos visible in the background. This challenging hole offers tremendous visual appeal.

Canyon: On The Bay Course's numerous Canyon holes, golfers play from elevated tees and pursue their drives into and through box canyons as the course switches inland from the sea. These holes feel more intimate than the Seaside holes and offer very different views and a greater variety of strategic options.

Grove: More than 1,000 mature olive trees - some more than 500 years old - were saved during the construction of the course and transplanted along the perimeter. The Grove holes meander through this treed landscape, providing distinctive mountain views in striking contrast to the Seaside and Canyon holes.

The golf course plays to a par of 71 from a variety of lengths designed to challenge golfers of various skill levels.

Both The Dunes and The Bay are managed by Troon Golf – the leading golf management company
