French Golf Holidays

Chantilly is a destination we've known for a long time. just two hours from Calais it's another world with a worldwide reputation for its golf, horse racing and polo. Last time there, we stayed at the Dolce Chantilly because of its pool and practice facilities are ideal for the children and the rooms are pretty big. Breakfast is a hearty affair. The lunch and dinner menu looked good and the restaurants were busy but I was a little disappointed with the two meals we had; they were decent but the restaurant is headed up by a Michelin-starred Chef so I was hoping for something better with service to match. Overall, the Dolce is a good choice if you want practical over top notch comfort.

We also visited the Hotel du Parc in the centre of town which is still perfectly located but overpriced. I prefer the Chateau de la Tour at Gouvieux which is five minutes' drive out of town and has a super oak panelled restaurant and there's also a lovely inn called Renardieres just down the road...All in all, Gouvieux offers a very French ambience and it's worth paying that little bit extra for the hotel.   If you want really small and really good food try Auberge aux Loup in Apremont with its four bedrooms, wonderful restaurant and there's also a brasserie just down the road. Apremont Golf Club is a firm favourite and is just down the road as are the amazing polo fields with its many international tournaments.

Heading back to Chantilly and for Relais et Chateaux luxury, our friends at the Auberge du Jeu de Paume offer us tremendous rates.  It’s a good relation; the hotel love our clients and the clients love the hotel with its two outstanding restaurants, spa and beautiful location just 200 yards away from the chateau, the race course and some great brasseries. Whether you're golfing or not, the Auberge makes for a great break. For a variety of styles and menus, the restaurants I would also recommend are Brasserie La Place, Essentiel, La Cour Pavee, Sylvia (with its non-stop service), the Cuban Bar for its sometimes lively evenings and the old favourite of Le Goutillon.

We also played some golf of course and Chantilly Vineuil continues to provide a lovely day’s golf and Chateau de Raray is as pretty as you can want. We popped in and had a look at International Club du Lys and my old PGA friend Philippe Bernard was giving lessons at the Dolce and he said Domont Montmorency and L'Isle Adam were looking good too.

All told, a lovely couple of days made even better by bumping into some hotel and   golf contacts during our 'unannounced visits'.  Try Chantilly if you're looking for elegance and a nice mix of eateries and golf courses with a lot of style but without breaking the bank.

Chantilly Golf Holidays

Getting to your Chantilly Golf Holiday Around Paris is easy. Just over two hours from Calais, lies Chantilly with Fontainebleau and Versailles a further hour. We can arrange flights to Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais or why not let the “train take the strain” and we’ll book Eurostar from London or Kent to the very heart of the capital where a transfer or hire car will be waiting for you.

Chantilly Golf Breaks

The Dolce Chantilly ticks a lot of boxes - great facilities, lots of bedrooms, two restaurants (one is Michelin-starred) and its own golf course. The Relais d’Aumale is a family-run favourite and the freshly refurbished Chateau Mont Royal is romantic. We have two hotels in Enghien where you can enjoy proxmity to both the golf courses and the capital.
